Amazon today unveiled its latest “Fire Tv” media streaming player for 2018 called the Fire TV Cube. Amazon describes it as a hands-free media streaming player with built-in Alexa enabled speaker that can stream 4k Ultra-High definition videos using Alexa’s voice control. Most of its internal specs are same as on it’s recently launched Amazon Fire Tv 4K in addition to supports for HDR contents, Dolby Atmos audio, Alexa’s voice assistant and HDMI CEC and more.

Fire TV cube has the built in eight microphones embedded into the setup box to hear your voice across the room. Other media streaming devices support voice control but only with the use of their remote control. Fire TV cube does ship with Alexa’s voice remote.

In terms of design, Fire TV cube is much similar to Apple’s HomePod also in terms of voice control features such as controlling device using voice across the room, but both these devices use two different voice assistant service (Alexa and Siri). Fire TV cube has advanced beamforming technology (much like Apple HomePod) that suppresses noise, reverberation, playing online contents and competing voices from others.

Amazon explains:

“We believe the voice makes it easier for customers to control their entertainment systems and watch the TV and movies they care about,” said Marc Whitten, Vice President of Fire TV. “And it’s just the beginning. Amazon Fire TV Cube will only get better over time in the Alexa service always getting smarter.”

In Amazon Fire TV Cube and its HDMI, CEC support users can now turn their TV on or off their Tv. Even if your TV is off, you have to say “Alexa play Youtube” and Fire TV Cube will power on your Tv and starts playing the requested app or content.

Fire TV Cube is also compatible with set-up-boxes from cable companies that include Comcast, DISH, and DirectTV with Alexa’s integration. Now Users can simply ask the Alexa to play a specific channel and Alexa will initiate their commands.

The New Alexa enabled Fire TV cube can be pre-ordered today or tomorrow for a special price of $89.99 (for prime members only), afterwards, it will cost for $119.99. Amazon Fire TV Cube has 16GB built-in storage with Ethernet adaptor, IR extender cable, a power adaptor and Alexa Voice remote.

Amazon will begin shipping this item to consumers in public from 21st June 2018. Anyone who buys Fire TV Cube and registers it before 1st July 2018 gets $10 credit that could be used for prime videos.
